News You Can Use...

We are fortunate to have a Title 1 program on campus.  Students who need extra help with reading receive services during the school day.  The program will be up and running at the beginning of October.  Mrs. Johnson, our Literacy Coach, will host a meeting about the Title One program and what the program offers to the students of Santa Susana Elementary.  Stay tuned for details regarding the meeting date and time.

Big Smiles Dentistry Program will be on campus Wednesday, September 28th to provide preventative dental care to those who sign up and qualify.  The dentist(s) will provide an exam, x-rays, cleaning, fluoride, and sealants as needed.  Students needing additional care receive a referral to a local dentist.  Thank you for your support and for caring about the health of your student(s).

Research shows students rooted well in their own cultural identity are better equipped to face challenges and do better in school.  Educational support is available to students with Native American or Alaskan Indian Heritage.  A Title VII federal grant provides Indian Education at our school site.  Monthly visits with an Indian Education teacher increases knowledge of cultural identity and awareness, while increasing academic achievement.  Students can continue their cultural studies in secondary school as well as receive college and career counseling.  To sign up, ask the school office for an application or visit http://tiny.cc/vcindianed for the enrollment form.  For more information, call the office of Ventura County Indian Education Consortium at (805)641-5000, Ext.1192.

This year’s theme for the National PTA Reflections Program is… “What is Your Story?” Entries can be in the following areas: Dance, Film Production, Literature, Musical Composition, Photography and Visual Arts. Workshops will be provided in the MPR September 27 & 29 as well as October 4th & 6th.  Parental consent required.

PTA will be selling student spirit shirts will be on sale for $10 each directly after school on Fridays.  Pay by cash or check made out to Santa Susana PTA.  Students are encouraged to show their school spirit and wear their shirt every Friday.  Go Mustangs!!
